LPD: Bicyclist killed in hit-and-run accident

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police say a bicyclist was hit and killed Friday afternoon on Newtown Pike near Newtown Circle.  The victim’s name was immediately released by the Fayette County Coroner.  The coroner says the cyclist suffered head trauma.

Investigators say witnesses told them that a pickup truck hit and cyclist and drove off.  Those same witnesses gave police the pickup’s license plate number.  Eventually investigators tracked down the driver of the pickup, who police say was taken to the hospital.

The deadly accident led to a major traffic backup on Newtown Pike and New Circle Road at the height of the Friday afternoon rush hour.
