At the age of 107, Cassidy’s family said he was the second oldest WWII veteran in the entire country.
Cassidy spent his entire life in Preston, a small town in Bath County, with the exception of the four years he spent in the army.
Cassidy’s son Mike said he was a combat engineer and was awarded four Bronze Star Medals.
Cassidy also farmed and worked for the road department.
In his retirement, Cassidy spent a lot of time at Blevins Store, just two building down from his house in Preston.
He would whittle on the front porch of the store and share stories with his friends.
His daughter, Jodi, said, "He enjoyed his pocket knives, squirrel hunting, fishing, and working on things. He always stayed busy."
Cassidy’s favorite meal was a bologna sandwich with an Ale 8, which be bought from Blevins Store almost every day.
Visitation for Cassidy will be at Richardson Funeral Home in Owingsville from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
The service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
