Longtime Leader For U.K. Medical Center Dies At 84

The U.K. Chandler Medical Center lost a longtime leader Saturday.

Doctor Peter Bosomworth, 84, died in Lexington.

Bosomworth was the hospital’s vice president and chancellor for 24 years before he retired in the mid-’90s.

The hospital said that under his leadership, the medical center grew to include colleges of medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy and what is now health sciences.

Bosomworth was a founding member of the non-profit Central Kentucky Riding for the Handicapped.

It later became Central Kentucky Riding For Hope.

Bosomworth was also involved with many other groups including the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the Better Business Bureau, the YMCA-Black Achievers and the Fayette County School SMART Program.

Milward Funeral Home said that Bosworth’s body was donated to UKMC Sanders Brown Center for the Aging.

A celebration of his life was planned for Sunday, October 12th at 2:00p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church.
