Longtime cave tour guide leaving for retirement
MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. (AP) — Longtime Mammoth Cave National Park tour guide Joe Duvall has retired from his post, but his fellow staff members say the guides he has trained and people he has met will ensure his legacy lives on.
Duvall told WBKO-TV (http://bit.ly/1vEaFNb ) after his retirement recently that he has tried to make everyone appreciate national parks and Mammoth Cave.
Duvall’s first tour was in 1961. He says he was proud to wear the uniform and spend his life in what he calls one of the most magnificent national parks.
Mammoth Cave Superintendent Sarah Craighead says Duvall was her history teacher in high school and she guided cave tours when she started as a seasonal employee. Craighead says it was a great experience and she learned much from Duvall.
