London police arrest suspect after hours-long standoff at apartment complex
LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A suspect is in custody after an hours-long standoff with law enforcement at an apartment complex in London on Monday morning.
According to a release from the London Police Department, officers responded to a domestic violence call at S&R Apartments on Barbourville Street around 8:01 a.m. When they arrived, officers located the victim and made sure she was safe, say police. The victim reported that the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Michael Caldwell, was armed with a handgun and had used it during the assault.
When officers attempted to contact Caldwell, he refused to exit the residence, leading to a barricaded situation. The London Police Department then requested assistance from the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team, according to the release.
After several hours, Caldwell surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. He was served with two warrants related to the incident, including charges of wanton endangerment (first degree) and assault (second degree, domestic violence).
Authorities have not released further details about the victim’s condition.
