London PD: Suspect in collision runs off, leaves children behind
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police in London have arrested a man they say ran off after a collision, and left his children behind.
According to Officers, on Tuesday they received a call about an accident on KY 229. When they got to the scene, they say they found a car with two little girls, ages 2 and 4, inside.
Police say they were informed that after the accident, 30-year-old Lloyd W. Smith ran off, leaving the girls in the car.
Smith was located and arrested less than 15 minutes later, at the S & R Apartments. He was charged with second-degree wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid, and operating a vehicle without a license.
A bystander took care of the girls until their grandmother could arrive.
