London City Council cancels special meeting on emergency budget and pay plan

LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The City of London has canceled a special-called City Council meeting Tuesday.

Leaders have been working to move forward on an emergency budget and pay plan aimed at keeping city workers on the job.

The meeting had been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the London Community Center.

City officials say the proposed emergency budget and pay plan ordinance comes after recent action to amend last year’s budget, along with a court hearing held yesterday morning involving City Council members.

As previously reported, at least 86 city employees filed a lawsuit against the City Council in December. The lawsuit came after the mayor announced he would be forced to lay off city workers from the Fire Department, Street Department and the Building Inspector’s Office due to budget constraints.
