London City Council passes amended budget ordinance, approves body camera requirement

LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — City leaders in London have approved an ordinance that will allow several city departments and agencies to continue operating under an amended budget, following weeks of concern over potential layoffs.

During a special-called meeting, members of the London City Council approved the ordinance on second reading. The move repeals the original budget that Randall Weddle previously warned could have forced widespread layoffs across city departments.

Council members also approved the second reading of a separate ordinance requiring police officers to wear body cameras at all times while on duty.

City leaders say votes on two additional items — a sanitation ordinance and a proposal involving the recording of council meetings — have been delayed until February.

Officials say the amended budget ordinance is intended to provide short-term stability while leaders continue working toward long-term solutions.
