Lockout at Roundstone Elementary tied to active KSP response; U.S. 25 shut down in northern Rockcastle County

ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Roundstone Elementary School was placed in a lockout Tuesday as a precaution due to an active law enforcement situation in the Roundstone community, according to Rockcastle County Schools and Kentucky State Police.

Trooper Scottie Pennington with Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London confirmed on social media that troopers are working an active situation in northern Rockcastle County that was initially reported as a domestic incident. As a result, U.S. 25 is shut down between Flat Gap and Lambert Road. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes.

District officials say all students and staff at Roundstone Elementary are safe, and instruction is continuing inside the building while law enforcement works the situation nearby.

Because of the ongoing activity along U.S. 25, several afternoon bus routes will not run out of an abundance of caution to ensure that no students are dropped off at home unsupervised.

The following bus routes will not operate Tuesday afternoon:

  • Flat Gap Route – James Poynter, Bus #1901

  • Lambert Road Route – Keith Mink, Bus #1303

All high school, middle school and Roundstone Elementary students who normally ride those buses will be held at Roundstone Elementary School. Parents and guardians may pick up their students directly from the school.

All other Rockcastle County schools will dismiss as normal. Parent pickup at Roundstone Elementary will also proceed as usual, and all RES bus routes not listed above will run on their regular schedules.

Families who are unable to arrange transportation for their students are asked to contact Roundstone Elementary School at (606) 256-2235 so alternate arrangements can be made.

Officials say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
