Local shops celebrate Small Business Saturday

LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ)- The holiday shopping season is in full swing. On Saturday, local shops celebrated Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010. It’s is a day to encourage shoppers to stay local and support the business owners that make communities special.
Among those celebrating in Lexington include Greyline Station.
Business owners had a variety of items for sale, including jewelry, clothes, and bakery treats. Saturday also marking the return of the holiday tradition known as Black Santa.
Greyline Station opened its brand new skating rink Saturday.
Greyline Station Marketing and Events Director Kathryn Burzynski says it’s important for customers to help money stay right here in their own communities.
“The holidays have become so commercialized now, and so much is about ‘spend, spend, spend’ and ‘buy, buy, buy.’ So it’s really great to support local vendors. And Greyline is such a great place because we have so many local business under one roof. So you can come here, support so many businesses all in one trip.”
The ice rink is open through the end of December. On Sunday, Greyline is planning a pop-up shop, featuring dozens of vendors.
