Local reaction after this weekends mass shootings
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – It’s been a weekend of mourning, from Texas to Ohio… Two violent shootings killing almost 30 people and injuring dozens.
Back in the Bluegrass, the shootings striking a chord for many. Lexington local Chantee Jordan said it’s a reminder no state is exempt from shootings.
“It’s very scary to me because you truly never know what a person is dealing with,” Jordan said.
She says the Dayton shooting was the first thing she saw when she woke up.
“I have friends that live in Dayton, Ohio. I checked up on them this morning. they’re scared and shocked but they’re safe,” Jordan said.
She said she is thankful no one she knows was injured but Jordan says this could happen anywhere.
“I had just asked my boyfriend to go to Walmart to get things and it was like you know you don’t expect these things to happen when you’re just going out to get toiletries or just things you need at home. so it was just super scary,” Jordan said.
Jordan lives with her boyfriend. She said he owns a gun and is for concealed carry but she personally thinks there needs to be a stricter process when getting a gun.
Lexington local Davita Hawkins said she agrees with Jordan and that she doesn’t understand why there aren’t stricter gun laws.
“Some mother, some father has lost a son or daughter, some child has lost a mother or father and for what? All the violence needs to stop,” Hawkins said.
