Local organizations embrace giving Tuesday

Communities come together to give back in various ways across Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — From food banks to animal shelters, organizations across the Commonwealth are hosting events to celebrate giving Tuesday.

In Madison County, God’s Outreach Food Bank is bustling with volunteers preparing for upcoming deliveries.

“We’ve got folks packing bags, getting ready for delivery days,” said Amanda Agee, Assistant Director of God’s Outreach Madison County Food Bank. “We also have our backpack program—food is being picked up today. It’s a busy place.”

In Fayette County, Paws 4 the Cause is hosting a giving event at a local pet store.

“You can come down today and donate items from our wishlist or make a financial or food donation,” shared Anita Spreitzer of Paws 4 the Cause.

While the National Day of Giving encourages generosity, organizations emphasize that giving can happen year-round.

“We serve 1,700 families a month across Madison, Jackson, and Estill counties,” said Agee. “Volunteering can involve sorting, packing, or even helping people carry items to their cars—there are many ways to help.”

Meanwhile, the Salvation Army in Lexington is urging community support through monetary donations, volunteering, or participating in their Angel Tree program.

Local nonprofits are asking residents to take a moment during the busy holiday season to give back to those in need.
