Local Group Opposes Cosby’s Upcoming Lexington Performance
There is now organized opposition to a scheduled performance in Lexington by comedian Bill Cosby. It’s the same group that stopped an appearance in the city by a controversial DJ.
Cosby is scheduled to perform at the Singletary Center on March 15th. Since allegations of sexual assault and drugging women surfaced, there have been many protests against Bill Cosby, including his performances. . The Singletary Center booked Cosby long before the allegations. When Cosby’s show at the Singletary Center was announced, ticket sales were positive. The Singletary Center recently told ABC 36 that ticket sales have since slowed.
A local organization, Compassionate Kentucky, hopes the former sitcom star’s show won’t go on. On its Facebook page, the group appealed to its more than 2,300 followers to join their campaign ‘Cancel Cosby’.
There’s speculation that some who initially bought their ticket before the scandal may now request a refund. Compassionate Kentucky continues to stand on its mantra to ‘encourage businesses to place community over profit’. Last year, the organization forced the cancellation of another appearance that was scheduled at a Lexington Bar by controversial DJ Hunter Moore. Moore is the founder of ‘anyoneup.com’, a revenge porn site that included stolen nude photographs of women.
Compassionate Kentucky plans to hold a meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Common Grounds Coffee House on the University of Kentucky’s campus.
