Local DJ Reacts to Prince’s Death

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – 107.9 “The Beat” Program Director & DJ says 2016 has been a tough year. After the recent loss of “The Beat’s” morning show DJ Doug Bay to diabetes and now losing Prince it’s devastating.

Alexander says something didn’t feel right when last week he reported on Prince’s plane making an emergency landing while on tour because of a case of the flu.

After hearing the news on TMZ today he couldn’t believe it at first, calling his record label friends and pals in Minnesota to confirm.

Heartbroken fans have been sounding off on the radio and on social media all day.

Alexander says Prince will be remembered for breaking the mold.

“He was a virtuoso, he could play anything. Prince just went on in his own lane, the way that he dressed, a man in high heels. He was wearing chains, eye makeup at that time. It was very controversial but prince didn’t care.”

Alexander says many artists sample his music and look up to the legend because he has taken his own path in life to make great music.

Alexander takes comfort in the fact that Prince’s music will live on forever.
