Local breakfast restaurant dealing with rise in egg prices

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Right off a small road in Georgetown sits The Porch, a breakfast and brunch restaurant that serves more than 10,000 people in the area.

“I’ve had to sort of like dance around and find the best price on eggs so that we can sort of keep our prices reasonable,” Co -owner Robert Linder said.

He says finding reasonably priced eggs is nearly impossible.

“After the first of the year, I noticed almost like a 30% increase on just the price of eggs,” he said.

He adds 60% of his menu items require eggs, meaning he’s had to increase prices for his customers.

“Trying to just find a good medium, or a happy medium in that situation has been hard,” he said.

He scrolls through Facebook ads, researches local farms and makes trips to the grocery store to see is he can find cheaper eggs.

“We try to look at different avenues just like we’ve looked into liquid eggs,” he said.

Liquid eggs come without the shell. Unfortunately, they can only be used for baked goods.

As health officials confirm more cases of the bird flu, we may not see egg prices falling any time soon. Linder says he is working to keep his prices affordable for his customers.

“We aren’t raising them to the point where they are ridiculous,” he said.
