Lincoln County water district gets $500,000 for improvements
LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The McKinney Water District in Lincoln County is receiving a $500,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant to help fund a major upgrade that will install 65,475 linear feet of waterline and a new 300,000-gallon water storage tank.
The federal funds come from an Appalachian Regional Commission infrastructure program that devotes resources to distressed counties throughout Central Appalachia. These communities have received over $60 million from this ARC fund.
“Throughout my time in the Senate, I’ve been proud to work alongside my friend Congressman Rogers to help provide Kentuckians with the clean and accessible water services they deserve. With today’s grant announcement, we are taking an important stride toward that goal,” U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell said in announcing the grant. “The additional water infrastructure funds provided by ARC have been instrumental in our efforts to help develop Kentucky’s Appalachian communities.”
“This is great news for families and businesses in Lincoln County, where improvements to the water system are urgently needed. Lincoln County has essentially outgrown its water lines and this grant will go a long way to expand and update the system to ensure that clean water is accessible for generations to come,” added Fifth District U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers.
“I am thankful to the ARC for this grant, which will allow over 2,200 households to have quality water and a much-needed increase in water pressure,” noted Jim Adams, Lincoln County Judge Executive. “We appreciate our federal leaders for supporting this project, which will make a significant impact in Lincoln County.”
