Lincoln County Board Of Education Building Catches Fire
The administrative staff was in the building when the fire started, but everyone was able to get out safely, according to Stanford Fire Chief Scott Maples.
The chief said the pre-school section of the building, the cafeteria and technology hub were a total loss.
The school superintendent said archived student records may not have survived the fire, which could impact some people in the community, particularly older citizens who were dependent on those school records for identification if they didn’t have an official birth certificate.
The superintendent also said due to the damage to the technology hub, service was out to every school in the district.
Firefighters worked to keep the fire from spreading to the newest section of the building.
The cause was unknown.
Firefighters were called-in from Boyle County, Garrard County, Danville and Lancaster to help fight the fire.
The chief said intense heat was making it hard on firefighters to fight the fire.
Thursday was scheduled to be the first day of school for public school students in Lincoln County. School officials said the fire forced the cancellation of classes on Thursday and Friday.
