Lightning suspected cause of Boyle County house fire

DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Investigators say lightning may be to blame for a house fire Tuesday that heavily damaged a home on Kings Ridge Road in Boyle County.

Firefighters say the fire started around 11:30 a.m. as thunderstorms were moving in the area.

Investigators say the back of the house may have taken a lightning hit that started the fire.

The second story was a total loss, according to firefighters.

Investigators say there was a fire hydrant nearby, but that it wasn’t putting out enough water, so additional water was brought in to fight the fire from neighboring Garrard County.

No one was hurt, according to firefighters.

They did have to cut a hole in the garage door to get the family dog out as well as two vehicles.

There was smoke and water damage to the first floor, according to firefighters.

Investigators say the homeowner, who was on the scene, built the home himself.

The official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
