Lightning Strikes Two Lexington Home Overnight

As strong storms passed through Lexington early Monday morning, firefighters were busy dealing with two homes struck by lightning.

The first home was hit around 12:45 a.m. Monday.

According to the Lexington Fire Department, the lighting strike left an 8-inch by 8-inch hole in the attic and surged most of the home’s breakers when it hit.

The fire department said they searched the home to make sure there was no fire or other damage inside the walls.

Then about 20 minutes later, firefighters got another call on Parker’s Mill Road for another home that had been hit by lightning.

Firefighters told ABC 36 News that the strike hit an invisible dog fence in the yard and the current traveled to an outlet in the basement.

The outlet began smoking, creating a light haze of smoke throughout the home and setting off the fire alarm.

There were no injuries in either strike.
