LFD: One person pulled from Lexington building fire
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Firefighters are on the scene tonight of a building fire at South Broadway and Nelms Avenue. Firefighters say at least four homeless people were in the building when it caught fire. They say one person was pulled from the building. The victim was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The first firefighters arrived on scene around 11:00 p.m. and reported flames and heavy smoke visible. The building is known to have had problems with squatters in the past. Also, some of the city’s homeless population is known to stay in and around the building.
Fire crews say they had a water supply issue while putting out the fire. They say the hydrant on the street has very low water pressure. So firefighters say they instead used water from a hydrant that was down the street.
We will bring you updates as they come in at wtvq.com and on Good Morning Kentucky at 5:00 am.
