LFD: Man had fire under control before firefighters arrived
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man had a fire under control before firefighters arrived after it appeared a hot water heater caught fire in a one-story duplex on Shropshire Avenue Tuesday night, according to the Lexington Fire Department.
Investigators say a neighbor noticed the fire and called 9-1-1.
When the homeowner arrived at the scene, investigators say he grabbed a garden hose and started fighting the fire.
By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had not spread beyond the kitchen, which they say made it easier for them to extinguish it.
The fire department doesn’t recommend people try to fight fires themselves, in part, because it can delay the 9-1-1 call and their response time, not to mention the safety risk.
Firefighters say fortunately in this fire, no one was hurt.
