LFD: House fire causes chimney damage, Father and son escape
LEXINGTON, Ky.(WTVQ) – Lexington Fire crews say a father and son were unharmed after a house fire overnight on 2013 Planters Court, that caused damage to the chimney, fireplace, and a family room.
According to Lexington Fire, they got the call around 2:30 a.m.
Crews say when they arrived there was light smoke coming from the front of the house and permeated across the roof.
Fire crews say the man and his son were inside the home when their smoke alarms went off.
According to Lexington Fire, the fire extended into the attic and behind the fireplace.
Crews say they had to tear out a piece of the home on the left side to put the fire out near the chimney.
Fire crews say there’s damage to a family room, the fireplace, and attic areas.
Crews say the man and his son made it out safely with no injuries.
Lexington Fire Chief Chris Ward says checking smoke alarms daily can save lives.
” Just remember, always check you’re batteries at least, and you’re smoke detectors, don’t take them out, leave them in there,” said Ward.”
