LFD: Electrical Heaters start fire at Kelsey Drive Home
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Fire investigators say electrical heaters caused a fire in the 1100 block of Kelsey Drive Friday morning.
Fire Crews responded to the fire that started in the attic of the home.
We’re told that five people were asleep inside the home and woke up to smell of smoke around 3:30 a.m.
At first the residents weren’t sure where the smell was coming from, but they quickly evacuated the home and called for help.
Once Firefighters arrived they say flames were coming from the back of the house and discovered the fire originated from the attic.
The Fire Chief told ABC 36 the residence had no working smoke detectors.
Investigators say four electrical heaters overloaded the electric system and caused the fire.
The electric and gas have been turned off at the home therefore, the residents will have to stay elsewhere until the home is repaired.
No injuries were reported.
