LFD: Another dumpster fire in area plagued last fall

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) –  The Lexington Fire Department responded to a dumpster fire in the 100 block of Malabu Drive around 2:00 a.m. Thursday.  Crews told ABC 36 News that when they arrived, the fire was at least 15-feet high.  They say they were able to put the fire out in a short amount of time.  According to investigators, no one was hurt and no other property was damaged.

ABC 36 News archives reveal there were at least 11 dumpster fires in this same area last fall. Investigators told ABC 36 News that they were looking into the dangerous trend.  The fire department says these types of fires are costly and dangerous.  Officials told ABC 36 News that it costs to repair and replace the dumpsters. They also say it’s dangerous because of the toxic chemicals and fumes that are often released during a fire.  Thursday morning’s fire is still under investigation.
