LexPark extends Food for Fines program an extra week

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — LexPark has added an additional week for its Food for Fines program.

The event will now end next Friday, Dec. 22, as they celebrate the 10th anniversary of the event.

LexPark donates canned food goods in partnership with God’s Food Pantry.

All you have to do is donate canned goods — and you get reduced fees for outstanding parking tickets.

For every 10 cans of food donated, you will receive $15 off any LexPark or Lexington police-issued parking citation.

“We just had an example of a UK student who got a ticket on UK’s campus which is a different parking authority, and she came here to get the swap out. We can’t do UK, but she was more than glad to leave the cans for us,” said Laura Boison, incoming executive director of the Lexington Parking Authority.

In 2022, LexPark collected nearly 2,000 food items, which paid for over $3,200 in citations.
