Lexington’s Second Skate Park Being Built

Lexington has broken ground on a new skate park at Berry Hill Park, just south of Man O’ War Blvd. on the south side of the city.

Lexington has one other skate park at Woodland Park, near downtown.

Justin Sharp, the manager of Cosmic at Fayette Mall, said, "It’s a good park, especially for being around as long as it has been, but we just need something new, need something bigger."

The new skating area will be 50 percent larger than the current skating area at Woodland Park.

Ground was broken on Monday and the project’s builder, Dreamland Skateparks, hopes to have construction completed by June.

The skate park is expected to cost $575,000 dollars.

Most of the funds will be public, but Cosmic has been raising money for the skate park since planning began more than three years ago.

Management at the skate store estimates they have taken in more than $2,000 in donations.
