Lexington’s New Police Chief To Be Sworn In Monday

Lexington’s new police chief, assistant chief Mark Barnard, will be sworn in at police headquarters at 9 a.m. Monday.

Barnard served the department for 28 years.

He was selected by unanimous decision to replace Chief Ronnie Bastin, who was promoted to public safety commissioner.

Barnard started at the Lexington Police Department as an overnight patrol officer.  He also headed up the Bureau of Investigation.

The president of the Fraternal Order of Police Bluegrass Lodge came out in support of Barnard, saying it was a positive move for the city.

He said Barnard will draw from his experience working in different bureaus and different parts of the city.
