Lexington’s New Police Chief Is Sworn In

Lexington’s new police chief, Mark Barnard, was sworn in Monday at 9 am.
 
Barnard, who has been on the force for 28 years, said safety is the department’s number one priority.
 
He has also set priorities for the department and said hiring was paramount.
 
According to Barnard, the department is currently interviewing for an assistant chief, three commanders, five lieutenants and seven sergeants.
 
He added that Lexington Police are making plans for the future.. 
 
"We’re already strategically looking at what’s ahead: NCAA, Sweet 16, Keeneland, Breeders’ Cup, [and the] Alltech horse show," said Barnard.
 
He said Lexington police will continue to move forward and that changes would come based on the community’s wants.
