Lexington’s ‘Free Waste Disposal Day’ is Saturday

LEXINGTON, Ky.- The city of Lexington is partnering with the Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station to offer another opportunity for Fayette County residents to drop off non-hazardous household waste for free.

The event will be held Saturday, July 18th from 6 a. m. to 1 p.m. at the Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station located at 1505 Old Frankfort Pike. Fayette County residents may drop off up to one pickup truck load of bagged household waste and up to four off-the-rim tires for free at this event.

“Lexington’s Division of Waste Management is pleased to offer a free household waste disposal day,” said Tracey Thurman, Director. “Residents have the opportunity to get rid of that excess waste that may be accumulating in our homes around this time of year.”

“Waste Services of the Bluegrass is looking forward to providing this community service as part of our partnership with the City,” said Greg Elkins, Chief Operating Officer with Waste Services of the Bluegrass. “We are pleased to serve the residents of Fayette County at the Bluegrass Regional Transfer Station.”

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has also issued closures over the weekend for the Old Frankfort Pike Bridge and outer loop ramps of New Circle Road to and from Old Frankfort Pike; residents should enter the transfer station from the southeast via Manchester Street and avoid the New Circle Road area during this time.

Residents may take latex paint to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 451 Southland Drive. Residents are asked to contact the ReStore at (859) 252-2224 prior to taking paint there.

Appliances will also not be accepted at the event. Appliances may be taken to Environmental Recycling, Inc. at 3899 Winchester Road. Electronic devices, such as computers, printers, cell phones, microwave ovens and televisions may be taken to the Electronics Recycling Facility at 1306 Versailles Road.
