Lexington’s Chrysalis House receives $450K in funding
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Attorney General Andy Beshear joined state and local leaders in Lexington on Thursday to present Chrysalis House $450,000 to support women and their families in recovery from alcohol and other drugs.
“Chrysalis House has been saving families, one life at a time, for more than 37 years,” said Beshear. “I am honored to support what they are doing to improve the lives of children and treat substance dependent expecting mothers.”
Chrysalis House is Kentucky’s oldest and largest licensed substance abuse treatment program for women, established in 1978. Chrysalis House specializes in treating pregnant and parenting women, allowing mothers to keep their newborns and toddlers while in residential treatment. Almost 33 percent of women entering Chrysalis House are pregnant and deliver babies while in the program.
In addition to substance abuse treatment, Chrysalis House provides mental health treatment, case management, domestic violence counseling, access to medical care, housing assistance and children’s services.
“Chrysalis House is one of the few programs that allow babies to stay with their mothers while in treatment, and we are thrilled to receive this funding,” said Executive Director Lisa Minton. “Investing in a mother is investing in a family, and investing in a family is investing in the future.”
In the recently passed state budget, lawmakers appropriated funds recovered from the Purdue Pharma case to 15 different recovery facilities and drug treatment centers recommended by the Attorney General that provide a variety of services throughout the Commonwealth.
