Lexington Students Participate in Mock Election

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Students in Lexington weighed in on this year’s top political race on Monday.

More than 500 Mill Creek Elementary students went to the voting booth, to cast their ballots for democratic, republican, and independent candidates in a mock election.

Organizers say they hope students will learn from the process, and want students to encourage their parents, to participate at the polls tomorrow.

“[We want them to] let their parents know that we had been talking about it in school, that they know the people, that they know what they stand for,” says 5th grade teacher Julie Serey. “That it kinda instills that drive in their parents, like, if my ten year old could vote, then I should get out and show them, that I can vote too.”

After casting their ballots, students at the school received an “I voted” sticker.
