Lexington STEAM Academy joins nationwide climate strikes
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington STEAM Academy joins nation wide climate strike Friday afternoon.
The school formed a picket line on North Limestone and sixth street.
Students are expected to express their concerns about climate change through spoken word, poetry, music and art.
The students said in a release: “What future are we preparing for if we continue to destroy our planet?”
“In twenty years, if we don’t help with climate change, I can expect that little kids will have no winter to look forward to,” Noelani O’Brien, ninth grader at STEAM Academy said.
O’Brien said she wants to see the world using more reusable energy resources, rather than fossil fuels.
Another classmate, Emma English said its time to make changes now to see future results.
“Even if you don’t care about climate change, you should still try to make a difference for the people you love…and for future generations since I feel confident that we’re not going to have the same world 10 years from now,”
This climate change rally, after last Friday’s climate strike at the state Capitol that had students from over a hundred counties participate.
