Lexington shooting puts two schools on heightened alert
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police have given two schools the “all clear” after being placed on heightened alert because of a shooting at a nearby home.
Officers say they believe the shooting started as a burglary at a home on Mt. Foraker Drive around 9:30 a.m.
According to police, the homeowner said he woke up and heard something upstairs. The homeowner told officers that when he went to investigate, he found two men. That’s when, he says, one of the men pulled a gun and fired.
Both men reportedly ran from the scene afterward.
The homeowner was taken to the emergency room at UK. Still no word on his injuries.
Police brought in K-9 and air units to try and locate the suspects, but have been unsuccessful.
Two nearby schools, Seton Catholic and Squires Elementary, were placed on heightened alert for about 30 minutes.
