Lexington Police warning community about “porch pirates”

Tips offered to prevent package theft during holiday deliveries

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — With holiday shopping in full swing, the Lexington Police Department is warning residents to protect their deliveries from “porch pirates.”

Officials note that packages left unattended on doorsteps are an ‘opportunity’ for criminals. To safeguard your items, they recommend shipping to a store for pickup, requiring a signature upon delivery, sending packages to your workplace, or installing a doorbell camera.

If you’ve experienced package theft, you are encouraged to report it by contacting the Lexington Police Department.
