Lexington Police warn of police report phone scam

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police say someone is calling people, claiming to be a law enforcement official, to try to rip them off.

Police say the person who’s called is told their name appears in a recent police report and they can get a copy if they pay a fee.

Police say the call-back phone number ends in 3892, which is an actual Lexington Police Department number, seemingly giving the scam call credibility.

Police say, don’t fall for it.  The police department would never call anyone asking them to pay money to get information.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lexington Police by calling (859) 258-3600.
