UPDATE: Missing elderly Lexington man found dead
UPDATE: (05/09/19 8:20 P.M.)
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- An elderly Lexington man who went missing Wednesday evening was found dead along Military Pike in Fayette County on Thursday, according to the coroner.
Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn says Dwight Newton was found dead in a cistern. He thinks Newtown fell into it and died of his injuries.
The cistern had very little water in it, so Ginn says Newton did not drown. Ginn says Newton had visited his mother’s gravesite and was visiting an area along Military Pike where he used to live at the time of his fall.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police have closed a road in Lexington to search for an elderly man with early onset dementia after his car was found abandoned Thursday morning.
Police issued a Golden Alert for 85-year-old Dwight Newton on Wednesday.
They say he was last seen around 6 p.m. when he left to visit the grave site of his wife at the Bluegrass Memorial Cemetery in Nicholasville.
His family says he visits the cemetery a few times a week.
According to police, Newton’s gray 2005 Kia Sorento was found abandoned along Military Pike around 7 a.m. Thursday.
The Lexington Police Department, Lexington Fire Department and Kentucky State Police are all doing a search of the area for Newton.
Newton’s niece says this area has meaning to him because it’s where he grew up, but the house is no longer there.
“Nothing like this has every happened. Once in awhile, he’ll turn a wrong street or something but he knew exactly where he was because he grew up right behind me. We’re not sure where he is at all,” said Angi McBride, Newton’s niece.
Kentucky State Police have a helicopter, drones, horses, K-9s, and ATVs.
Police say property owners in the area have also come out to help look for Newton.
The search concluded around 2pm on Thursday with no new leads on Newton’s whereabouts.
The family says he was wearing a yellow paid shirt, blue pants, tan shoes, and a UK baseball cap.
Authorities are going to regroup and determine their next step.
If anyone has information or spots him, call the police.
