Lexington police officer succumbs to cancer; being remembered by the department, city

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) -The final arrangements are announced for Edward Thurman, a retired police officer in Lexington who passed away after battling cancer. According to Legacy Funeral Home, Thurman, aged 55, passed away this past Sunday. His wife revealed on Facebook that Thurman had been diagnosed with a type of cancer that had spread to his brain.

Lexington Police stated that Officer Thurman had recently retired from the department earlier this year after dedicating 20 years of service to the community. During his tenure, Thurman served as a neighborhood resource officer and also acted as the department’s liaison with the Catholic Action Center. He actively participated in various community projects, including “Operation Copsicle” and reading for the department’s “Page-Turners” series.

A celebration of life service in honor of Thurman will be held on Friday afternoon at four o’clock at the FOP Bluegrass Lodge on Duval Street in Lexington, according to the funeral home.
