Lexington Police issue traffic alert ahead of busy Friday night events

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The Lexington Police Department is warning drivers to expect heavy traffic across the city Friday evening as several major events take place.

Police say increased congestion is expected around Keeneland, downtown Lexington, and the University of Kentucky campus area, where UK Basketball is hosting a game.

In a social media post, the department urged drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcyclists to stay alert, follow all posted signs and signals, and maintain safe distances while traveling.

Police also remind the public to allow extra travel time and to follow directions from officers who may be assisting with traffic control in busy areas.
