Lexington Police Investigate Reported Cell Phone Fraud
Lexington Police are investigating cell phone fraud that investigators said happens all over the city.
Investigators said members of a fraud ring, often from Detroit, Michigan, come to Lexington and pay people money to go into a store and sign-up for a phone plan in order to get a new smartphone at a reduced price with no intention of honoring the contract.
Police said the buyer then gives the new phone to a fraud ring member, who sells it, often to someone overseas, at a huge profit.
