Lexington Police encouraging residents to take ‘The 9 p.m. Routine’

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department is taking part in a national campaign to help curb crime during the holiday.

It’s called “The 9 p.m. Routine.”

According to police, the idea is for people to get into a routine before settling in for the night to prevent break-ins and thefts.

That routine includes: turning on porch lights, taking valuables out of vehicles, locking car doors and closing garage doors.

Lexington Police will also post “The 9 p.m. Routine” messages on its Facebook and Twitter accounts, with the goal of making simple safety steps an everyday habit for people.
