Lexington Police Department gives some Thanksgiving safety tips
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – As millions prepare to hit the road for Thanksgiving, the Lexington Police Department is reminding drivers to take extra precautions to stay safe during the holiday rush. In a Facebook post, the department shared several tips to help travelers reach their destinations safely.
Police urged drivers not to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs and emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts. According to the post, everyone in the vehicle should be buckled up at all times.
Drivers are also encouraged to avoid distractions, put down their phones, follow all traffic signs and signals, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. With heavier traffic expected, officers say staying alert is key.
Police also remind drivers to watch out for pedestrians and bicyclists, as holiday travel often brings increased activity on the roads.
Officials say following these safety tips can help reduce the risk of crashes not just during the holidays, but year-round.
