Lexington Philharmonic Musicians Could Strike Friday

You might not expect a strike in the classical music business.

But the musicians of the Lexington Philharmonic could go on strike this Friday.

The opening concert of the season is supposed to start Friday night at 7:30 at the Singletary Center for the Arts on the UK campus.

But musicians aren’t happy about job security, loss of employment and a clause that restricts their ability to perform with other groups.

The musicians gave their representatives the okay to call a strike, if necessary.

The group also reportedly approved a ‘no confidence’ vote last week in Music Director Scott Terrell.

The musicians say they will meet with management to try to prevent a strike.
