LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ)- It Is no secret that many people are struggling financially this year. But perhaps with holidays around the corner, no one is struggle more than single mothers.

“Moms are saying that they just cant afford it this year,” says Natalie Mims.

Mims is the president of the Lexington non-profit Mobile Mission Experience. The organization began three years ago during the pandemic, and caters to single moms in the area.

“To be that anchor for them this year or to meet the needs they have throughout the year, it just kind of warms our hearts,” says Mims.

Mims says she received a lot of messages from single mothers who were worried about providing a Thanksgiving meal for their kids. So MME volunteers jumped in to help.

“We decided to take on the task of doing a Thanksgiving basket giveaway,” says Mims.

The giveaway was held at Lexington’s East Side Library this weekend and provided turkeys, all the sides and desserts, as well as other necessities.

“We just want to bless on them. We worked really hard and we are thankful for our community partners. We could not have pulled this off without them,” says Andrea Woodson, the Vice President and Treasurer of the MME.

Black Soil provided fresh produce and grocery story chain Meijer provided turkeys, all to make sure those in need have something to be extra thankful for this holiday.

“Families really are in need. And we wanted to do something, not only give away baskets, show a little bit of love to the families. We have some crafts here, we’re serving refreshments, and we just wanted to give families a little bit of love because it’s a hard season sometimes for families and we just wanted everyone to feel loved and special,” says Mims.
