Lexington native Tee Dee Young coming to Lyric Theatre
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ/Press Release) – Blues artist and Lexington Native Tee Dee Young will be bringing his talents to the Lyric Theatre on Friday, Sept. 17.
Tickets are now on sale for Tee Dee and Friends Night: A Night to Honor Tee Dee. General admission costs $35 and the VIP experience will be $45.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The VIP area will serve food from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the event will conclude at 10:30 p.m. Daughters Southern will have a food truck set up with snacks available for purchase for general admission ticket holders.
Young writes and performs his own music, while covering music written by other artists. He has opened up for and performed with legendary and acclaimed blues and R&B musicians such as Johnny Rawls, Guitar Shorty, Big Bill Morganfield, Albert King, Lil “Howling” Wolf, Sir “Mack” Rice, Eddie Floyd, Malina Moye, Al Green, Denise LaSalle, Aretha Franklin, Cameo, Lakeside, James Brown, Alexander O’Neal, Vesta Williams, Miki Howard and many others.
Young has also won the King of Beale Street Award in Memphis, has been a finalist in the International Blues Competition several times and has won the Entertainer of the Year award in Lexington four years in a row.
Young has received proclamations from both houses of the Kentucky General Assembly and the Lexington Mayor’s Office. The upcoming concert honors the four-year anniversary of former Mayor Jim Gray’s proclamation of Sept. 13 as Tee Dee Day in Lexington.
“The concert at the Lyric Theatre will provide a larger venue for more audience members to experience the energy of Tee Dee’s live performances,” said Percy Thomas, close friend of Tee Dee and board member of The Lyric Theatre. “We’re excited to bring this event to the Lyric Theatre and look forward to a fantastic evening!”
The Rachel Crowe Band and the Mojo Tones will open for Young.
