Know where to go to see fireworks in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington will light up the sky with fireworks as usual on the Fourth of July, but this year the celebration is moving to a new part of town … over Commonwealth Stadium.
“We think this will be a great place to watch the fireworks,” Mayor Jim Gray said. “Thanks to the University of Kentucky and to the Arboretum for working with us.”
Commonwealth Stadium will not be open, but parking lots around the stadium will be available as a place to park and watch the fireworks.
The fireworks will be launched from a site across Alumni Drive from the arboretum.
The arboretum will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic at 8:00pm on Monday, July 4. Alumni Drive between University Drive and Tates Creek Road will be closed from 9:30pm – 11:00pm. College Way will be closed from 9:30pm – 11:00pm. Parking and viewing areas will be available around Commonwealth Stadium.
A viewing only area will be provided so don’t forget your blanket and chairs! Please note, there will not be any concessions vendors available at the event, and tailgating will not be permitted.
For those who live near the stadium who are wondering if they will be able to see the show from their yards, a three-minute test fire is planned for 9 p.m., Monday, June 6.
For the test fire on Monday, June 6:
– The UK Arboretum will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic at 8 p.m.
– Alumni Drive, between University Drive and Tates Creek Road, will be closed from 8:45-9:30 p.m.
– College Way will be closed from 8:45-9:30 p.m.
