Lexington Named Top Finalist In Mayor Bloomberg Challenge
Lexington has been named a finalist in a challenge started by New York City Mayor Bloomberg.
The Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge is a nationwide search for the best ideas to improve cities. Lexington asked the community for ideas and heard from more than 400 people. The city’s plan was for a website and media platform called ‘citizenlex.org,’ which beat out hundreds of cities.
Only four cities will receive $1 million and only one will win the grand prize, $5 million. All 20 finalists are sending teams to New York for an "Idea Camp" hosted by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The winners may not be announced until the spring of 2013.
