Lexington murder suspect faces new charges after alleged jail stabbing

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Lexington man already charged with murder is now facing additional charges after allegedly stabbing another inmate at the Fayette County Detention Center.

According to jail officials, 32-year-old Phillip McElroy is accused of stabbing a fellow inmate 11 times during a fight Tuesday. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

McElroy was originally booked into the jail in March following his arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Tai’ Maricus Warner on Ohio Street. A second person has also been charged in that case.

McElroy is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on the new assault charge Monday morning at 8:30. The investigation remains ongoing.
