Lexington Mayor’s budget included grants to agencies in social service

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The mayors office says grants to 33 social service agencies are part of the budget proposal Mayor Gray sent to the Urban County Council on Tuesday.

“These grants help citizens throughout our city … those who most need help,” Gray said. “They are essential.”

Officials say with Council approval, $3 million in “Extended Social Resource Grants” will be awarded to agencies that work in four basic areas which are the Community Wellness and Safety, Childhood and Youth Development, Food Insecurity and Nutritional Access and Emergency Shelter.

The mayor’s office says the grant winners were recommended after an exhaustive examination of 80 requests for a total of $8.8 million.

“Lexington’s network of local agencies has a proven record of collaborating with local government, to empower families and strengthen neighborhoods,” Ford said. “We are fortunate to continue these partnerships through ESR program funding.”
