Lexington Mayoral Candidates Debate Ahead Of Tuesday’s Primary
Voters had another chance Monday night to hear from the three men who want the job.
Current Mayor Jim Gray, Former Police Chief Anthany Beatty and Associate English Professor Danny Mayer took part in a debate.
The candidates were asked about several issues including Rupp Arena, the city’s homelessness problem, minimum wage and economic development.
The men also spoke on what they would do to improve Lexington.
Beatty said the city needed to come together as a community to decide how to take Lexington to the next level.
"I talk about proactive public safety….very critical that we do that…And certainly provide enhanced public services and be fiscally responsible," said Beatty.
Mayer said one of the things he would focus on would be connecting neighborhoods through greenways.
"I will value public parks, suburban economic development to compliment our urban development, an increase in Lextran and a healthier way of living," said Mayer.
Meanwhile incumbent candidate Jim Gray referenced his term and said the city is on the right path.
"We now have more people employed in Lexington than ever in its history. Savings and job growth add up to being able to make investments in our city," said Gray.
The two candidates who receive the most votes next Tuesday will move on to the General Election in November.
