Lexington Mayor Wants $10 Million for Homeless, Housing and Public Safety
Mayor Jim Gray wants to spend $10 million of a $13 million city surplus on homelessness, affordable housing and public safety, in an announcement he made Friday.
Gray said $6.5 million would be set aside for public safety requests, starting July 1, the beginning of the new budget year.
$3.5 million would address affordable housing and homeless needs, according to the Mayor.
Nine city council members backed the proposal in a vote during Friday’s Budget and Finance Committee meeting.
